Rwanda Launches SME Credit Guarantee Scheme to Drive Economic Growth

Rwanda’s government launched a $150 million SME Credit Guarantee Scheme on September 10, 2025, designed to improve access to finance for small and medium enterprises. By guaranteeing a portion of loans from commercial banks, the program reduces risk and encourages lending to startups and local businesses.

For entrepreneurs, this creates a pathway to scale operations and innovate, showing how government policy can empower private enterprise to generate tangible public benefits, from job creation to increased economic activity.
